My name is Juan Fernández Buelga. I was born in Oviedo, Asturias (Spain), the 23rd of October, in 1982. I lived in Santander, Cantabria (Spain), many years, there I finished my degree in business administration. Nowadays, I am finishing geology at the University of Oviedo. My passion with minerals started long time ago. In fact, before I was five, I used to go with my father, Agustín Fernández, in the search of new finds for the mineralogy of this part of Spain. He has spent most of his life in one aim, make the Fernández Buelga Collection the best and most complete mineral collection of the Cantabric Mountain Range. Thanks to this, my interest in minerals has become bigger and, now that I am 26, this is more than a hobby.

As I have said before, all our collection is from the Cantabric Mountain Range, where you can find lots of mineral localities, in some of wich there have been found specimens of the world´s best quality. Mining activity in this place has been going on since Prehistoric times till nowadays.

As a lover in Cantabric Mountain Range´s mineralogy that I am, I would like everybody worldwide can get to know, thanks to this web, at least, a small part of the mineral beauty hides in this land.

In the eighties, collecting calcites in Asturias, Spain.
In an old mine in Picos de Europa Mountains, Spain. We were collecting quartzs and others minerals.

Specialists in fine minerals from the Cantabric Mountain Range since 1985.

Finally, just say that www.spanishminerals.com, has been created with two basic aims:

1- To become, with time and loads of work, a point of reference for the Cantabric Mountain Range´s mineralogy.
2- Try to recover, at least, a small part of the investment I have made in the search of new finds for the mineralogy of this place. That´s why when you buy a mineral from this web, you are contributing with the mineralogy studying.

But not all is going into the mines!

Many customers has asked me if I exchange minerals, I don´t use to do it but, if you find the time to visit Spain, I would like you to visit me at least once to talk about mineral collecting. We could meet either in Santander, Oviedo or Bilbao, wich are some of the most important cities in the north of Spain. I can asssure you will fall in love with this small part of the world. Click here to see a brief article about Asturias, Spain.

If a visit to Spain is impossible, there is another one way you can use to exchange good minerals with me, it is antique books!! If you have antiquarian books related to mineralogy, geology or mining, do not hesitate to contact me!. Also, send me an email if you want to sell your book collection!
